COMMON QUESTIONS

What Would You Like to Know?

We regularly get asked questions about the products we work with. Below are a few of the frequently asked questions from previous customers. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask us, we will be happy to help the best way we can.

HOW DO I KNOW WHERE TO START WITH MY PROJECT?

Step 1 is to have an idea of what you are looking to do (i.e. type of project, garage, fence, deck, etc).
Step 2, contact CK Construction and we will walk you through the rest of the process including obtaining all necessary permits.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VINYL AND COMPOSITE?

Vinyl is 100% PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). Vinyl decking is chemically bonded which reduces the risk of separation in the material. Composite is a mix of wood particulate (can be sawdust, woodchips ect.) and plastic heat compressed together. Higher end composite has a larger percentage of plastic and lower end composite has a larger percentage of wood.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I STAIN MY WOOD DECK OR FENCE?

General rule of thumb is every 2-3 years if the deck or fence is in a protected area (from weather and sunlight), you can sometimes go longer than three years. This is also depends on which type of stain or sealant has been utilized on the wood product.

IF I USE CK CONSTRUCTION TO BUILD MY GARAGE OR SHOP, DO I HAVE TO SET UP ANY TRADES?

No, as a general contractor we take care of all the different trades for you, from start of project to clean up.

HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT MY PROJECT TO TAKE?

This is difficult to answer, as each project has its own unique timestamp, for example, a fence can take only a couple of days, where as a large house build or Barndominium build can take months depending on the level of details.

ARE POLE BARNS OR STUD WALL SHOPS BETTER?

There are reasons for each one; Pole barn builds are often quicker and cheaper than stud wall as there is no need for a foundation to be excavated & dug, standard garage builds or stud wall builds do not have any posts that are dug into the ground, helping to avoid rot, we can discuss what your options are, or what works for your budget best.
